2020 Florida State USPSA Championships, 1-17-20 (PCC)

January 29, 2020

PCC Division

  • ZRTS – Gibbz – Taccom 9mm PCC
    • Lower: ZRTS-1 9mm Glock lower, JP yellow springs, Blitzkreig hydraulic buffer with short stroke spacer, 308 carbine spring and MFT Minimalist stock
    • Upper: Gibbz side charger with Taccom extreme feed barrel with muzzle break and Taccom 9mm bolt
    • Bushnell TRS-25 primary and Vortex Venom secondary
    • BB RN 124gr loads and Fiocchi 115gr ammo
    • ETS 40 round and, 57rnd MBX extended ETS mag

Loaded up 350 rounds of the BB RNs and brought some Fiocchi’s for backup. Most of the stages averaged 30 rounds, but with a re-shoot, I eventually ended up mixing ammo on at least half the stages.

Stage 6

  • Good splits and pretty good, save for the hiccup on that 4th steel.
  • Clean, 71st out of 243

Stage 7

  • Makeup on the get go, then I throw the second shot into the no-shoot on the right, forcing a step back for another makeup.
  • So off I start throwing 3s in the end.
  • 111th

Stage 8

  • 2 plans – the standard ‘W’ of starting on either side, back, up the middle, back again, then up again; and this one. I reasoned that the less uprange running, the better. The advantage of back and forth is shooting on the move, and closer targets.
  • Again with the snap back for a makeup.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • 136th

Stage 9

  • Side optic for the hard lean to start.
  • Side kick to get myself going right after the hard lean. I should work on doing the left foot push-off instead.
  • Only 2 on the tux swinger!
  • Felt great, looks good, but the timer didn’t pickup the last few shots, apparently, so re-shoot…

  • Front almost identical, even the side kick.
  • I wanted to start on the swinger this time so I changed the retreat run.
  • Tux swinger now shot 5 times. Splits slower after.
  • The first time worked out so great, I changed it up.
  • 80th

Stage 10

  • Started out great on the tux, but fell apart on the swinger. Instead of hitting the one on the left, I should’ve just waited for it as it was quick. Icing on the cake is another snap back to get 1 last hit on the swinger.
  • After that, I think I mentally checked out and my splits slowed down.
  • At least it was clean; 98th.

Stage 11

  • Not sure if this was the plan but it seemed so at the time.
  • Some in the middle left could’ve been shot on the move.
  • Activator could’ve been shot before leaving the right position and some of the others shot on the move going in.
  • Swinger only had 1 hit. 117th.

Stage 1

  • Hard lean to start, and even thought I checked doing it without mounting to the wall, I mounted to the wall, taking more time and then losing the dot.
  • Should’ve gone into the second gap rather than splitting it up to save travel.
  • Mike on the far 2-stack; 78th.

Stage 2

  • Had trouble acquiring the dot on shouldering. Need to practice shouldering while leaning.
  • Mike on the last target shot from the right; 157th.

Stage 3

  • Deliberate and solid at each position.
  • Clean; 89th.
  • Too improve:
    • First one on the move, followed by the lower (open) on the right moving in.
    • Static for the top, no-shoot covered on the stack, then on the move again for the 2 in the middle.

Stage 4

  • Good splits, steel 1 for 1.
  • 41st

Stage 5

  • More steel than usual, so I use the MBX extended mag.
  • First 2 should’ve been shot in reverse with the second in retreat.
  • After the run, first shot on the move in, as it always should. On exiting, I inadvertently perform a left foot push off (need to practice this more).
  • Second array would’ve been better shot with the far array and steel on entry, and the close one on the left on exit.
  • Right side plan is solid.
  • Clean, 89th.

The Good

  • No equipment issues.
  • Mixing ammo in the mag – 30 BB RNs with 10 Fiocchi in the bottom was supposed to be a cue for when I had hit the last 10. Never noticed.
  • Stage 4 – 41st best stage
    • good splits, shooting on the move, steel 1 for 1
  • Stage 6 – 71st second best
    • first stage of the match – no nerves
    • good splits, good timing on the drop turners

Needs Improvement

  • Stab technique (dryfire)
  • Shooting on the move
  • More outdoor matches
  • Keep on challenging myself to go faster
  • Steel 1 for 1
  • Be less of an evening person

Finished 91st out of 243, 16th out of 35 in PCC, and 3rd out of 8 in B-class.
