Limited Optics Division

STI DVC LO

  • Borrowing Lee P’s STI DVC setup for Limited Optics
  • C-More RTS dot
  • Gas pedal
  • MBX 140mm mags
    • Blue basepads – 23rnd
    • Purple basepads (2) – 24rnd, one of them reloadable
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.14 OAL)

Was going to shoot 3G today at HSC but went to WAC as it’s shaded and probably would finish earlier. Also, I’d get a second classifier in for LO.

Stage 6

  • Reload required between arrays. I end with steel in case I need to makeup and not deal with another reload if things went sideways.
  • Clean; 28th out of 66.

Stage 1

  • Ok start, then almost forgot the planned reload.
  • Middle array is good, steel 1 for 1. A lot of comments regarding shooting the swinger on the move out.
  • Clean, 15th.

Stage 2

  • Looked good, splits appropriate to the smaller IPSC targets, and steel 1 for 1.
  • Managed an intermediate paper between the steel and maxtrap.
  • On scoring though, it’s 3 mikes.
  • 3M; 42nd.

Stage 3

  • After the first 2, I planned on taking the other 2 on the right. Saved a position shooting the far right array from where I was. I originally planned to shoot them on the move up, which in retrospect would’ve allowed to shoot them closer.
  • Reload, middle on the move, then finish on the left.
  • Clean; 18th.

Stage 4

  • Couldn’t see the dot after the pickup from the barrel, hence the brief pause before the first shot.
  • Broke up the targets so I could skip the position at the gap.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean; 15th.

Stage 5

  • 1 each for the left array, 2 for the middle, and 3 for the right. Virginia count.
  • Started on the right just because.
  • Clean; 27th.

Stats: 100A, 32C, 5D, 3M (Previous LO stats: 100A, 41C, 1D, 1M – 1st WAC 4th Sunday match as LO; this is GC stats)

The Good

  • Good A-C ratio.
  • Gun and ammo ran.
  • Right leg good, able to run.
  • Shaking off S2.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Better A-C ratio.
  • More trigger time with the DVC LO for quicker splits.
  • Keep up with diet and PT for the right leg.

Finished 23rd out of 66 overall and 4th of 12 in Limited Optics.

Limited Optics Division

STI DVC LO

  • Borrowing Lee P’s STI DVC setup for Limited Optics
  • C-More RTS dot
  • Gas pedal
  • MBX 140mm mags (23rnd)
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.14 OAL)

Continuing with LO.

Stage 4

  • Hands on head, loaded gun on barrel.
  • Sweetspot for the first five.
  • On the move for the middle 3.
  • Clean; 14th out of 39.

Stage 1

  • First 3 ok, but maybe should’ve taken the 2 steel in the back to save the position after the reload.
  • Ran to plan and the gun ran.
  • Clean; 12th.

Stage 2

  • Left – reload – right. Theoretically.
  • Didn’t see the big popper still standing before the reload. Procedural for shooting it.
  • 1P; 26th.

Stage 3

  • Start with hands touching barrel, gun on table. Steel 1 for 1.
  • Going as planned until the malfunction. Dead trigger? Trigger freeze? Couldn’t tell. Rack and continue.
  • Tight round count so I knew I had to reload.
  • Clean; 20th.

Stats: 60A, 23C, 2D, 1P (Previous WAC LO stats: 74A, 17C, 3D)

The Good

  • Good A-C ratio.
  • Stages 1 and 4.
  • I can run.

Needs Improvement

  • Need speed on splits and target appropriate splits.
  • More trigger time to get used to the new system.
  • Keep up maintenance on the right leg so I can keep running.
  • Not my gun, but a shorter trigger shoe might be a better fit for my hand.

Finished 17th out of 39 overall and 1st out of 3 in LO.

Limited Optics Division

STI DVC LO

  • Borrowing Lee P’s STI DVC setup for Limited Optics
  • C-More RTS dot
  • Gas pedal
  • MBX 140mm mags
    • Blue basepads – 23rnd
    • Purple basepads (2) – 24rnd, one of them reloadable
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.14 OAL)

Second LO match with the DVC LO using ammo recently loaded on an automated 1050. Switched out the Everglades holster for a more standard drop-offset, which I’ll also be using for 3G.

Using the 24rnd reloadable as primary for round counts < 25, and using it as the reload for > 25.

Stage 3

  • Too much swinging on the first array. Others simply doubled on the first steel to get it out of the way for the second. At least it was 1 for 1.
  • The rest as planned.
  • Mike on the middle no-shoot; 35th out of 63.

Stage 4

  • As planned; steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean, 28th.

Stage 5

  • On the move for the first 4, then through the port.
  • Continuing with the plan, left to right; steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean; 29th.

Stage 6

  • 4, reload 4 – strong hand only.
  • Practiced strong hand at the safe area beforehand.
  • Clean (surprisingly); 21st.
  • New bay at Guncraft allows for more stages. This is the first of 2 in the new bay.

Stage 7 – Classifier

  • Starting on the right meant I could sweep past the steel and come back for it with a shorter sweep (which wasn’t needed).
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean; 30th.

Stage 1

  • Different ways to go, which involved a lot of running. Ran it opposite as everyone as the run to the right was shorter than to the left.
  • Extras on the steel.
  • Clean; 32nd.

Stage 2

  • First run and the bobber didn’t activate. This is the reshoot.
  • Steel 1 for 1, all as planned (even with the bit of the bobble after the reload).
  • Clean; 23rd.

Stats: 100A, 41C, 1D, 1M (Previous GC LO stats: N/A)

The Good

  • Good A-C ratio.
  • Gun and ammo ran.
  • Right leg good, able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Better A-C ratio.
  • More trigger time with the DVC LO for quicker splits.
  • Keep up with diet and PT for the right leg.

Finished 31st out of 63 overall and 3rd of 10 in Limited Optics.

Limited Optics Division

STI DVC LO

  • Borrowing Lee P’s STI DVC setup for Limited Optics
  • C-More RTS dot
  • Gas pedal
  • MBX 140mm mags (23rnd)
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.14 OAL)

Trying out the new, provisional Limited Optics division with Lee P’s DVC setup for this division, and using ammo loaded on his autodriven 1050.

Stage 4

  • Used the violet basepad mag which held 24 but wasn’t reloadable. The gas pedal was also the slide lock, but apparently didn’t work as a slide lock. Had to manipulate the slide open while I inserted the mag and made it work.
  • Hit the first steel but didn’t drop. Hit it the second time and it still didn’t drop. Went back but it finally fell. Steel tango. Happened to the next 2 shooters so instead of re-shooting, our times were adjusted. Level 1 match.
  • Rest is to plan.
  • Clean; 26th out of 56.

Stage 1

  • Everything to plan up until the end with a double feed. Dropped the mag, reloaded and finished.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean; 36th.

Stage 2

  • After the malfunction on S1, we oil the DVC.
  • Targets closer so I can go faster.
  • On the move for the middle and steel 1 for 1.
  • Trigger freeze in the last array.
  • Clean; 13th.

Stage 3

  • Good start on the first array.
  • Reload to the next array, steel 1 for 1.
  • Quick dash to the last position to finish.
  • Clean; 13th.

Stats: 74A, 17C, 3D (Previous WAC LO stats: N/A – first LO match)

The Good

  • Clean match
  • Great A-C ratio.
  • Stages 2 and 3.
  • Used ammo loaded on Lee P’s automated 1050; no issues.
  • I can run.

Needs Improvement

  • Oil.
  • Need speed on splits and target appropriate splits.
  • More trigger time to get used to the new system.
  • Keep up maintenance on the right leg so I can keep running.

Finished 21st out of 56 overall and 3rd out of 8 in LO.

Carry Optics Division

  • Glock 34 CO with Burris Fastfire 3 using MBX 140mm 23rnd steel Glock mag, TTI 22rnd extended mag, Magpul 21rnd  and Glock 17rnd mag
    • Timney trigger
    • 124gr Berry’s RN (4.2gr WST, 1.14OAL, Remington SPP)

Trying out some 9mm from Lee P’s automated 1050 using my components. Found out Remington primers were ‘finicky’ as some where upside down, smashed or high. Made about 200, will test it out and finish off 800 after the match (if they work). At the match, sorted out what felt like high primers.

Stage 2

  • Classifier. Start seated, hands clasped behind head. Gun unloaded on table, mags on table.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean, 9th out of 42.

Stage 3

  • Far steel 1 for 1 to start. Confidence gained from shooting steel at Manatee 3G yesterday.
  • Left side and didn’t rush enough into position. Gotta hustle to each position.
  • Reload and cut through the middle, but lost the plan after the first 2. Was supposed to take the stack in the back, the one on the left, then the single plate between the barrels.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • 9th.

Stage 4

  • Shot a planned, including strong hand only in the end, using my left hand to support myself on the wall.
  • Bit of time to acquire the dot strong hand only as I don’t practice strong hand only.
  • Clean; 7th.

Stage 5

  • New bay at HSC, just past the shoot house.
  • Shot as planned, steel 1 for 1, middle paper on the move.
  • Clean; 12th.

Stage 1

  • Plan by Lee P; shot as planned.
  • Hot day, and while only noon, was getting tired. Splits slowing down, even on wide open targets. Lost sequence at the last position.
  • Clean; 9th.

Stats: 97A, 9C, 1D (Previous HSC CO stats: 117A, 17C, 3D, 3M, 2NS)

The Good

  • Clean match.
  • Awesome Alpha-Charlie ratio and Alpha count.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Gun ran – loads from Lee’s 1050 good to go.
  • Being able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Splits need speed.
  • Quicker splits. Need to hit the range and run doubles or Bill Drills.
  • Keep on working to get my head up while reloading with the gun up.
  • Quicker reloads – I unload and reload on the move. I’m a few steps in as the mag clears the gun and I insert a fresh mag while moving. Need to practice performing everything in the first step or 2 (max) before moving.
  • PT the right leg for continued improvement and strengthening.

Finished 8th out of 42 overall and 2nd out of 9 in CO.

3G Manatee, 6-10-23

June 12, 2023

Open Division

G34 CO

  • Trybe G34 threaded barrel
  • 13# recoil spring
  • Strike Industries stainless steel guiderod
  • Timney trigger
  • ETS 27rnd, Glock 17rnd mags
  • 124gr Berry’s RN (4.2gr WST, 1.10OAL, mix: SPP and SPM)

PWS Suppressed upper + SW MP15

  • 16″ PWS Upper
    • Meopta 1-4 primary
    • YHM brake + R9 suppressor
    • My 55gr loads:
      • Berrys 55gr, 24.1gr TAC, bulk re-spec’d brass, SRP
  • MP15 lower – JP trigger, JP SCSS, Magpul MOE stock
  • Magpul 40 and Troy 32rnd mags

RIA VR80

  • Magpul K grip and Luth stock
  • Holosun 510c primary and Venom offset
  • 22, 20 and 12 round mags (Taccom and TF extended)
  • Federal Target (1200fps) and Truball slugs (1300fps)
  • Protective sleeve to shield from gases

VR80 cleaned and oiled – had to remove the muzzlebrake with a torch to burn off the loctite – to address FTF(eed) issues.

Stage 2

  • From the first position of the small spool, 1 for 1 on the 200yd steel and the KYL rack at 100yds. Used the bipod and a rear bag – I thought the bipod would be too long on the small spool but tried it out on ‘Make Ready’ and found it worked.
  • From the 2nd position, 4 for the first 200yd steel and 2 for the 2nd.
  • Borrowed Lee’s Sig 320 for the pistol portion as I wasn’t confident with mine for the 80yd steel. 1 extra on the close steel and 7 for the 2 at 80yds.
  • 10th out of 36.

Stage 3

  • Pistol only stage. For the paper at the start, need to practice moving sideways instead of stop/starting as I did.
  • Missed my index for the small popper through the barrels after taking the paper. Should’ve started on the popper then moved on with the paper.
  • Ran dry for the paper so reloaded and took the second shot on the move out.
  • Clean; 5th.

Stage 4

  • Forgot to setup hatcam; no video.
  • 3 boxes (L-R): SG, rifle, pistol. Chose to start with SG on left, rifle staged in middle barrel.
  • 8 steel for SG, used a 12rnd mag. SG ran.
  • 4 paper for rifle.
  • 8 paper for pistol.
  • Clean; 11th.

Stage 5

  • All paper except for the swinger is rifle.
  • 4 steel in the back is pistol (1 extra).
  • 20rnd TF extended mag turns the SG into a single shot. Need to disassemble and check the follower as it’s feeding shallow and FTF(eed).
  • Clean; 9th.

Stage 1

  • Start feet inside the van and all shots must be from the van. I tried seated but 1 steel was problematic, and the mag was too long. Shot standing inside instead.
  • Used the RIA extended 22rnd mag with no issues.
  • Missed the flying clay.
  • Didn’t feel confident doing a leaping exit out of the van, hence the ginger backwards exit. Also why I originally wanted to shoot seated so the exit would be quicker.
  • 1 for 1 on the rifle steel.
  • Clay miss; 21st.

The Good

  • PWS system continues to run good out to 200 with my 55gr loads.
  • General rifle work.
  • Pistol work.
  • SG runs with 12 and 22rnd RIA extended mags.
  • Able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean and check the follower of the TF extended VR80 mag.
  • Clean match.
  • Offset dot for PWS system. Specially since the Meopta’s front cap broke so now I can’t use it to quickly occlude the tube for short work while magnified.
  • QD sling mount for PWS upper.
  • Continue leg PT for more dynamic movement (ex. exiting a van).

Finished 11th out of 36 overall and 6th out of 15 in Open.

PCC Division

Aero-JP 9mm PCC

  • Lower: Aero 9mm Glock lower, CMC 9mm trigger, Taccom magwell, Blitzkrieg PCC buffer and Luth carbine stock
  • Upper: JP BCG, JP HG, JP brake, Anderson receiver, KVP barrel
  • Vortex Strikefire red dot, and LAPG light at 6 o’clock
  • 40rnd ETS and TF extended 27rnd mags
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.10 OAL)

650 setup for major, with a few hundred left to go before I can change it out to minor. With the Atlas still down, can’t shoot major, so sticking with the PCC for now.

Stage 2

  • Straight up shoot as fast as I could, middle on the move, then slow down for the half target but fast again on the steel.
  • Clean; 1st (!) out of 46.

Stage 3

  • Good start on the right side – quicker to get to that side than going left; steel 1 for 1.
  • Quick stop for the middle and the right side angle, then finish on the halves and no-shoot.
  • 2M on hardcover; 16th.

Stage 4

  • 2 flanking no-shoots with a maxtrap in between.
  • Stomp pad activates maxtrap in the middle, which requires 4 hits. NPM if you don’t make the hits.
  • Copied the setup of Rick H – right foot angled over the stomp pad as with a car pedal.
  • On go, shoulder the rifle, acquire the target and shoot. At the same time I pull the trigger, I stomp. Didn’t have to wait for the maxtrap nor did I feel rushed to get the 4 required in.
  • Clean; 2nd (!).

Stage 5

  • 5th stage for tonight (as 4 was a short stage).
  • Reload required between arrays, successfully done.
  • Clean; 13th

Stage 1

  • Another middle start where I go to the side closer to the start. Unloaded start.
  • From there on it’s down the line port shooting.
  • Saw some wood flying at the second to the last port, so extras.
  • Clean; 13th.

Stats: 73A, 19C, 2D, 2M (Previous WAC PCC stats: 74A, 14C, 2D)

The Good

  • Great A-C ratio.
  • Stages 2 and 4. I can be fast.
  • PCC runs.
  • Good splits, target appropriate.
  • I can run.

Needs Improvement

  • PCC is good. Need to work on pistol work.
  • Keep up maintenance on the right leg so I can keep running.

Finished 11th out of 46 overall and 5th out of 7 in PCC.

PCC Division

Aero-JP 9mm PCC

  • Lower: Aero 9mm Glock lower, CMC 9mm trigger, Taccom magwell, Blitzkrieg PCC buffer and Luth carbine stock
  • Upper: JP BCG, JP HG, JP brake, Anderson receiver, KVP barrel
  • Vortex Strikefire red dot, and LAPG light at 6 o’clock
  • 40rnd ETS mag
  • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (4.2gr WST, Win SPP primers, 1.10 OAL)

Back from a trip to Portugal, taking it easy with PCC.

Stage 4

  • On retreat for the 3.
  • Somehow I broke the stage after shooting both arrays from the gap. The middle array was intended to be engaged at the end on the right.
  • 7th out of 38.

Stage 1

  • Good start on the first 2, but didn’t go deep enough to see the 2 on the left.
  • Shot the 2 straight down before going into the gap on the left, instead of after coming from the gap on the move to the right. Just shot the last one on the left on the move.
  • 9th.

Stage 2

  • Quick splits for far targets. Steel 1 for 1.
  • Saved the 3 in the middle for last as they were closer than on the left.
  • 4th

Stage 3

  • Gun on table to start. Shot only 3 and saved the one on the right for last.
  • Quick splits throughout.
  • 5th

Stats: 74A, 14C, 2D (Previous WAC PCC stats: 60A, 28C, 2D, 1M, 1NS)

The Good

  • Clean match.
  • Great A-C ratio.
  • PCC runs.
  • Good splits, target appropriate.
  • I can run. (came back from Portugal last year barely able to walk, which I discovered was gout.) No post-Portugal effects this time.
  • Able to do well after a short break.

Needs Improvement

  • PCC is good. Need to work on pistol work.
  • Keep up maintenance on the right leg so I can keep running.

Finished 6th out of 38 overall and 3rd out of 10 in PCC.
