Open Division

  • Open Edge in .40SW using 155gr BB RN loads
  • Safariland ELS belt system

Back to the old BB RN loads as I didn’t have any more of the PB FNs. This is the first match after a 2 week vacation to Europe, so I was expecting to be rusty. Also, arriving 2 days ago Sunday night, I’m jet lagged from the 6 hour time change. It’s welcome as I am sleepy and ready for bed as early as 6pm. Thing is, the match starts 6:30 so I was sleepy during the match.

Stage 1

  • Target appropriate splits – slow for no-shoots and far targets, quick for up close, open targets. Need some speeding up on up close, open targets taken on the move.
  • Clean, 7th out of 51

Stage 2

  • Went right when most went left. I realized that I could start shooting earlier after moving a half step to the right than taking a few steps left.
  • It also put me in better position for the middle port taking the first on the left on the move.
  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Slow splits, but got my hits.
  • Clean, 7th

Stage 3

  • Different ways to shoot the stage and I’m not sure if this was the best either. But I again figured taking the first on the left on the move out going right afforded shooting earlier.
  • Sequence on the right giving priority to shooting the open targets on the move hence the right-left transition. Same issue with the left array.
  • Clean, 7th again.

Stage 4

  • Shot with some of the PB FNs I had left. Quicker splits, but most Ds for the match. Quicker but less accurate?
  • Clean, 9th.
  • Consistently 7th, then 9th here. Is it the ammo?

The Good

  • Planning – Stage 2 and 3.
  • Consistent placement – 7th for 3 stages.
  • Clean match.
  • No malfunctions.
  • Like riding a bike? Not bad after 2 week vacation and being a bit sleepy from jet lag.

Needs Improvement

  • Steel 1 for 1
  • Splits
  • PB FN less accurate because I shot faster?

Finished 6th out of 51 and 2nd out of 5 in Open.

Open Division

  • Open Edge in .40SW using 155gr PB FN loads
  • Safariland ELS belt system

Loaded up some of the new PB FN loads (6.4gr Power Pistol, down from 7.0). Will need to verify this meets major pf.

Also, new camera, now in 4k! Video looks much clearer and better field of view, for only $25!

Stage 2

  • First to go, alpha, unsorted. I like doing this as it gets me used to going first. Doing this forces me to pay attention to the stage so everything is planned and all accounted for. Good practice for the big matches.
  • Did the steel standing tango. Needs to be 1 for 1.
  • On the move for the middle array.
  • Speaking of 1 for 1, the 6 steel on the right is 1 for 1.
  • Clean, 15th out of 44

Stage 3

  • Toes on the dots, so I scoot back and right on the draw. Makeup on the second smaller steel.
  • Reload on the move to the right.
  • Most everyone shot through the port and scooted left for the last target. I felt it was smoother to take it on the move into the port.
  • Briefly lost rhythm after shooting the first target through the port. Needs to be smooter, and at that distance, quicker.
  • Clean, 8th

Stage 4

  • Most shot through the port last, so as to save from getting up. I felt good enough to squat at the port to save some travel.
  • Last target shot was standing on my right leg as the left was up in the air balancing the lean.
  • Clean, 8th.

Stage 1

  • Start touching dots on the wall. Draw while scooting to the left.
  • Quick on the open, slower on the no-shoots.
  • Clean, 11th.

The Good

  • Planning – Stage 3 and 4. Also, my best stages.
  • Squatting and not worrying about getting back up in Stage 4.
  • Clean match.
  • PB FN loads work. Seems softer than the BB RN loads, what with its lesser charge.
  • No malfunctions.

Needs Improvement

  • Steel 1 for 1
  • Splits

Finished 12th out of 44 and 5th out of 6 in Open.
