    • Romeo3XL optic
    • 124gr Montana Gold JHP
    • 3N38 VV
    • MBX 170mm mags

Atlas still in the shop, so it’s ‘Scaramanga’ for tonight again, and for Doc Welt.

Stage 4

  • Steel 1 for 1 to start.
  • Most went right, but going forward was shorter. Off sequence on the 3. Also, going uprange right afterwards allowed better indexing through the port.
  • Mike on the last upper right target (maybe the no-shoot next to it); 9th out of 51.

Stage 1

  • Symmetrical stage. Straight up plan. Jam never helps.
  • Clean; 20th.

Stage 2

  • Unloaded start; downloaded mag by 1
  • First to go, but planned quickly enough for the semi-memory stage.
  • Middle on the move.
  • Clean; 4th.

Stage 3

  • Another straight up stage, gained by taking the middle (most of it) on the move.
  • Clean; 12th.

Stats: 65A, 28C, 2D, 1M (Last WAC Open stats: 60A, 19C, 10D, 1M, 2NPM)

The Good

  • Great Alpha-Charlie ratio.
  • Quick planning then going first on Stage 2.
  • Able to run.
  • Great accuracy from ‘Scaramanga’.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Keep working on quicker splits and target appropriate splits.
  • Keep up on PT and diet for the right leg.

Finished 7th out of 51 overall and 3rd out of 8 in Open.

    • Romeo3XL optic
    • 124gr Montana Gold JHP
    • 3N38 VV
    • MBX 170mm mags

Atlas still in the shop, so still borrowing ‘Scaramanga’. Atlas may be in for a spell as it’s got a weird trigger that somehow other 2011 triggers don’t fit.

Stage 2

  • Step back first and avoid the uprange run, or step forward for a quicker start? Going forward first had the least distance, I thought.
  • Ran as planned.
  • Mike on the last target, as I probably sent it over; 9th out of 47.

Stage 3

  • 3 for the 1 steel.
  • But the rest goes as planned with the 4 middle on the move.
  • Clean; 5th.

Stage 4

  • Decided to start right so I was indexed for all the targets.
  • Steel 1 for 1, including the popper, but nothing on the drop-turner.
  • Quick through the port to end.
  • Clean; 10th.

Stage 1

  • Steel 1 for 1.
  • Everything to plan but right side open paper near the end could’ve been quicker.
  • Clean; 8th.

  • Gun ran.
  • Great accuracy from ‘Scaramanga’.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Keep working on quicker splits and target appropriate splits.
  • Keep up on PT and diet for the right leg.

Stage 2

  • Middle on the move.
  • Extra on the platerack.
  • Mike on the swinger; 8th out of 50.

Stage 3

  • Steel 1 for 1 to start, then the paper while leaving.
  • Quick on the flanks.
  • Clean; 7th.

Stage 4

  • Start behind the barrel, step in and let ‘er rip.
  • Off sequence in the last port but made it work.
  • Clean; 6th.

Stage 1

  • Shot as planned, though not as smoothly as I did in my head which was all on the move.
  • Clean; 7th.

PCC HSC 4-16-23

April 17, 2023

pxl_20220816_231154060
  • Lee P.’s MBX
    • 10″ barrel, 6″ comp
    • Hiperfire trigger
    • Holosun 510c
    • 124gr Berrys RN loads (4.2gr WST, 1.1OAL, Win SPP)
    • ETS 40rnd mag
    • Scheel Roller-Delayed Buffer System (Springs: S, S, W)

Lee brought both his MBX PCCs with Scheel RDBS and 10+6″ barrels. Wanting to see if the 10+6″ barrel made a difference, I ask to use the backup.

Stage 4

  • Starting on the closest target so I can set the pace and keep it as the targets get further. Dot stays on and allows the same speed on the further targets.
  • Same pace on the right side.
  • Clean; 7th out of 40.

Stage 1

  • Clays killed me.
  • Extras on the large steel.
  • 40rnd ETS mag and I run out with 2 targets left = +20sec.
  • 2 Misses; 30th.

Stage 2

  • Zombie stage: red cross on head = 3 anywhere required; ‘clean’ target = 1 head shot (body doesn’t count).
  • Planned and ran, if a bit less decisive near the end.
  • Clean; 4th.

Stage 3

  • 9 steel from each box.
  • 22 shots from the first box, 12 from the second as I figured out the lollipop hold was the trick.
  • Clean; 27th.

Stats: Pen – 20sec

The Good

  • Stages 2 and 4 – run and gun stages.
  • Fast splits out to relatively far paper on Stage 4.
    • 10+6″ barrel might be GTG.
  • Able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Verify zero on clays at 35yds.
  • Practice on small targets at 35+ yards.
  • Keep PT and watching diet for the right knee/leg.

Finished 20th out of 40.

Open Division

  • ‘Scaramanga’ – Lee P’s 38Super SVI Open
    • Romeo3XL optic
    • 124gr Montana Gold JHP
    • 3N38 VV
    • MBX 170mm mags

Atlas still in the shop, so still borrowing ‘Scaramanga’. Scarmanga is the titular character in James Bond’s “Man with the Golden Gun” played by Christopher Lee. While the character’s gun isn’t a 2011, the TiN gold colored accents makes me think it’s a ‘golden gun’.

Stage 3

  • The first 2 through the port was the classic question of bum-rush or finesse. I chose finesse to save travel. All else to plan.
  • Clean; 7th out of 48.

Stage 4

  • Steel 1 for 1 to start. Paper could’ve been faster.
  • Steel 1 for 1 again at the second and third positions.
  • Ran as planned.
  • Clean; 7th.

Stage 1

  • Went right to start as 1-2 steps in and I was shooting, compared to a few steps more going left.
  • Splits need to be faster for the long paper on the right.
  • On the move for the middle. While I could’ve taken the left-most on the move, it was the furthest and visible from the last position.
  • Clean; 2nd.

Stage 2

  • Choice to shoot from the back shooting area (finesse) or bum-rush.
  • Bum-rush works out better if the gun doesn’t jam. FTE(extract) as from the last match, but this time I had to take the mag out to clear it. Time killer.
  • Clean; 33rd.

Stats: 67A, 23C, 2D (Last WAC Open stats: 64A, 25C, 1M)

The Good

  • Clean match.
  • Great Alpha-Charlie ratio.
  • Able to run.
  • Great accuracy from ‘Scaramanga’.

Needs Improvement

  • Recommend to Lee P to check Scaramanga’s extractor or ejector.
  • Keep working on quicker splits and target appropriate splits.
  • Keep up on PT and diet for the right leg.

Finished 9th out of 48 overall and 2nd out of 5 in Open.

Open Division

  • ‘Scaramanga’ – Lee P’s 38Super SVI Open
    • Romeo3XL optic
    • 124gr Montana Gold JHP
    • 3N38 VV
    • MBX 170mm mags

While the Atlas is getting its trigger repaired, borrowing Lee P’s Open SVI running 38Super (his ammo), MBX mags, and DAA Lynx Belt system with DAA mag pouches and DAA holster.

Didn’t get a chance to walk the stages as I waited to get in the match. Tried to register at 12:04pm last Saturday, and the match was full. Normally if I don’t get confirmation that I was off the waitlist by Tuesday morning, I don’t bother. With the Doc Welt Match coming up, I needed the practice.

Stage 4

  • Extra on the steel at the start.
  • Ran as planned.
  • Clean; 10th out of 53.

Stage 1

  • Unloaded start.
  • On attempting the makeup on the middle headshot, FTE(xtract). Lee had warned me about it, and the fix was to tilt and hold the slide back for the unejected case to fall out.
  • Everything else is as planned, and steel 1 for 1.
  • Clean; 18th.

Stage 2

  • Start holding the middle barrel.
  • Quick on the first 3, then hit my index on the port running uprange. Need to be quicker on the no-shoots.
  • 1 for 1 on the platerack and the 2 poppers.
  • Clean; 8th.

Stage 3

  • Few ways to shoot the stage:
    • 6 on the left, 6 on the right
    • 6 on the left, 4 after a step, 2 on the right
    • I decided to do the middle on the move
  • ‘Forgot’ the one to the left of the barrel so I jerk back to it. Running further right wouldv’e also let me see it anyway. Plan not locked in, hence the flub.
  • Mike on one of the middles (on the move); 18th.

Stats: 64A, 25C, 1M (Last WAC Open stats: 49A, 30C, 3D, 1M)

The Good

  • Great Alpha-Charlie ratio.
  • No Deltas
  • Able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Keep working on quicker splits and target appropriate splits.
  • Keep up on PT and diet for the right leg.

Finished 11th out of 53 overall and 3rd out of 8 in Open.

3G Manatee, 4-8-23

April 10, 2023

Open Division

G34 CO

  • Trybe G34 threaded barrel
  • 17# recoil spring
  • Strike Industries stainless steel guiderod
  • Timney trigger
  • ETS 27rnd, Glock 17rnd mags
  • 124gr Berry’s RN (4.2gr WST, 1.10OAL, mix: SPP and SPM)

PWS Suppressed upper + SW MP15

  • 16″ PWS Upper
    • Meopta 1-4 primary
    • YHM brake + R9 suppressor
    • My 55gr loads:
      • Berrys 55gr, 24.1gr TAC, bulk re-spec’d brass, SRP
  • MP15 lower – JP trigger, JP SCSS, Magpul MOE stock
  • Magpul 40 and Troy 32rnd mags
  • PSA-Gibbz-Taccom 9mm PCC
    • Lower: PSA Glock lower, CMC 9mm trigger, Scheel Roller Delayed Blowback (RDB) system (hard, weak springs) and Magpul PRS Lite stock
    • Upper: Gibbz side charger with Taccom extreme feed barrel with muzzle break and JP 9mm SS bolt
    • Holosun 510c primary
    • Green laser at 9 o’clock position
    • 124gr Xtreme RN loads (124: 4.2gr WST, 1.1OAL)
    • ETS 40 round mags

RIA VR80

  • Magpul K grip and Luth stock
  • Holosun 510c primary and Venom offset
  • 22, 20 and 12 round mags (Taccom and TF extended)
  • Federal Target (1200fps) and Truball slugs (1300fps)
  • Protective sleeve to shield from gases

Atlas out for repairs otherwise had planned on using it.

17# recoil spring in the G34 in its suppressed configuration. Need a separate 13# spring assembly so I can swap out easily when needed.

New recoil spring in the VR80 to address FTF(eed) issues from the last HSC 3G match where the bolt would stop short of going into battery. Also did my standard pre-match oiling which I skipped last time.

Stage 1

  • Pistol mag in, chamber empty on the dash or console.
  • Small Easter egg hanging on a string in the corner for bonus time, one shot per gun – optional. Given the prep for each shot, leaving it entirely would be the gaming way, unless I KNEW it was going to connect. Shot at it with both just to see.
  • With the rifle, either hit the single steel at around 100-150yds from each of the 9 ports, or 6 from the top 6 ports and 3 off-hand from the box.
    • 7 for the 3 from the box, offhand.
    • 1 for 1 for the first 5, and 4 for the last port on the VTAC.
  • Clean, but no bonus for the Easter egg; 26th out of 48.

Stage 2

  • SG starts ok with the first 2 shots then single shot. Just when you think it’s running, it fails when the 2 clays are up in the air. New recoil spring apparently wasn’t the fix.
  • Rifle goes better with the sniper flipper target at 100yds and 2 steel at 200yds.
    • 4 for the 3 from the (shaky) pole
    • 1 for 1 from the tires
    • 4 for 3 from the barricade
  • 2 clay misses; 28th.

Stage 3

  • Battery ran out before the run; no video.
  • All guns staged at designated boxes. L-R: pistol, rifle SG.
  • Start at the start box holding a bat and hit the Easter egg on the barrel to start.
  • Run right to the SG for steel and a slug swinger. Used Lee P’s Typhoon and 10rnd mag with the last round being the slug (Lee’s B&P ammo). Used less than 9 to drop the SG steel and burnt the rest before shooting the slug.
  • Run to the left for the rifle – used the PCC instead and goes well.
  • Run left for the pistol for steel and the KYL rack. On the last (smallest) of the KYL, I quit after 5 shots.
  • 1M on the KYL; 18th.

Stage 4

  • Battery dies before I finish the run, so only the first half is available.
  • SG start, with the Typhoon and 15rnd mag loaded. I fail to shoot at the 1 steel I HAD to shoot from the first box. No plan locked in.
  • As I cross the midline, perform the mandatory reload and finish the steel on the other box.
  • Dump the SG, draw the pistol and run up for the 3 paper on the right. Reload crossing the line again, then last 3 paper on the left. It’s also here the pistol decided to join in on the malfunction fun. Cleared by having to remove the mag. Most probably due to the 17# spring and my loads.
  • Id’ve been finished if I hadn’t forgotten that 1 steel so I had to go back to the first box.Thankfully it takes 1 shot on the 25yd+ steel to end it.
  • 1FTN; 32nd.
  • Best way was probably to just use the SG and slug the paper.

Stage 5

  • SG start and now Lee’s Typhoon hops on the malfunction wagon. Single shot, just like my VR80. At least it’s just for the start.
  • Used the 30 round mag which is just too ungainly. With the Typhoon’s fixed stock, I was stretched out and shooting uncomfortably.
  • The 30 round mag also used up a lot of space in the dump barrel, getting in the way of retrieving the PCC. Probably should’ve gone pistol instead.
  • Clean; 24th.
  • Best plan was probably SG only.

The Good

  • PWS system runs and good out to 200 with my 55gr loads. Continued confirmation at this match.
  • General rifle work.
  • PCC work.
  • Pistol work.
  • Able to run.

Needs Improvement

  • Clean match.
  • Practice sideways rifle shooting – figure out sideways DOPE and holding for low ports.
  • Figure out the VR80 – deep cleaning.
  • VR80 slug zero.
  • Offset dot for PWS system.
  • QD sling mount for PWS upper.
  • Bring a sling and practice with a sling.
    • Working around and with the sling.
    • Offhand shooting using the sling as support.
  • 13# recoil spring assembly for the G34 CO.
  • Continue leg PT.

Finished 23rd out of 48 overall and 13th out of 19 in Open.

Open Division

Open Division

  • Atlas (pre-)Chaos, Deltapoint, and MBX mags using 124gr RMR HP loads.
    • 7# recoil spring for major loads
    • 124gr RMR JHP
    • 7.0gr Autocomp
    • CCI small rifle primers
    • 1.165 OAL

Keeping on with Open, prepping for Open for Doc Welt coming up at the end of April. Right leg ‘at base’, but now the left hip tightens up every so often. Doesn’t prevent running, but lets me know it’s there. Left hip better today than previous.

Stage 4

  • Steel 1 for 1 to start.
  • Took the open target while slowing down for the port, then took the one next to it leaving the port.
  • Clean and good time, but too many Cs and Ds; 17th out of 49.

Stage 1

  • Steel 1 for 1 again to start.
  • Second position goes well until the malfunction (dead trigger). Rack to fix.
  • Steel 1 for 1 again, but the malfunction kills it.
  • 1Mike; 33rd.

Trigger issues return to the Atlas so I ditch it and share Lee P’s Infinity using his ammo. The Atlas goes to Lee N. for work at Deep River.

Infinity/SVI 38Super Open

  • Infinity/SVI guns 38super with Romeo3XL, sharing with Lee P. using his 38super loads.

Stage 2

  • Amazingly the gun fits my holster.
  • Steel 1 for 1 to start again.
  • On the move for the middle.
  • 3 to the tux and all 3 are in.
  • Clean; 3rd.

Stage 3

  • Steel 1 for 1 and the stack through the port on the move out.
  • Quick for the ones in the middle and the right.
  • Clean; 4th.

Stats: 49A, 30C, 3D, 1M (Last WAC Open stats: 58A, 33C, 7D, 1M)
Atlas: 17A, 19C, 3D, 1M
SVI: 32A, 21C

The Good

  • Ok Alpha-Charlie ratio.
  • Able to run.
  • Ditching the Atlas and running the SV.
  • Seeing the difference between the DeltaPoint and the Romeo3XL (3XL FTW)
  • Seeing the stats between the 2 guns.

Needs Improvement

  • Buy an SV.
  • Change to 38Super.
  • Clean match.
  • Keep working on quicker splits and target appropriate splits.
  • Keep up on PT and diet for the right leg.

Finished 14th out of 49 overall and 1st out of 9 in Open.
